Do residential proxy providers charge extra for city targeting?
Most do not. Of eight self-service providers read on 18 October 2026, seven include city targeting in their residential price. DataImpulse bills city-targeted traffic at double its standard rate, which turns $1.00/GB into $2.00/GB. Banyan Proxies includes city and ASN targeting on every plan, from $1.88 for 1 GB.

How much does a surcharge change the real price?
Take 10 GB of city-targeted traffic. At DataImpulse's base rate it would cost $10; at the city rate it costs $20. ProxyWing's 10 GB costs $21.30 with city included; Banyan Proxies's 10 GB costs $5.94. At 1 TB the DataImpulse city rate is $1.60/GB, against $0.50/GB here. Compare offers on the price you will actually pay for the parameter you will actually use.
What else matters for city work besides the price?
- What happens when a city is empty. If a city has no IP online, a request may fail or land elsewhere. DataImpulse's docs say it cannot guarantee proxies from a specific city; Geonode targets cities "when matching IPs are available". Whatever the provider, check the exit city of each IP before you trust the data.
- Expiry. City tests come in bursts. Monthly plans that reset can waste unused GB; prepaid traffic that never expires does not.
- Session length. A sticky city IP is needed for multi-page checks. Sticky sessions keep the same IP for the time you set (ttl, in minutes), up to 30 minutes. The IP can change earlier, for example if the residential device goes offline.
- Paperwork. Some providers ask every customer for ID; we do not.

What else do buyers ask about city surcharges?
Is a ZIP or postcode surcharge common too?
Postcode targeting is mostly a United States feature, and DataImpulse applies the same double rate to ZIP. In South and Southeast Asia and Oceania, providers target by city; Banyan Proxies does not offer postcode targeting.
Does ASN targeting cost extra?
Not at Banyan Proxies: ASN targeting is at no extra cost. DataImpulse documents the double rate for ASN as well as city, state and ZIP.
Are these prices still current?
They were read on 18 October 2026 and are re-checked at least every 45 days on the price index. Always confirm on the provider's site before buying.
